Jarmo Julkunen is a Ukulele Artist, Guitarist, Composer and Producer.
Over the last ten years Jarmo Julkunen’s passion has been the ukulele, and he has been playing it in concerts all over the world: Europe, Japan, China, the USA etc.
In addition to live concerts you can hear his playing in various Universal's production music recordings, international television productions and movies, in TV-commercials and in globally known mobile games like Angry Birds, just to mention a few.
As a performing artist Julkunen has wanted to expand the ukulele’s repertoire and raise the instruments profile trough collaboration with many contemporary music composers. Julkunen has premiered compositions as a soloist of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, The Lahti Symphony Orchestra, the UMO Jazz Orchestra and with the London Symphony Orchestra’s (LSO) string quartet.
Jarmo Julkunen has composed a lot of music for stage, e. g. an operetta based on an absurdist Finnish comic strip about the relationship of a woman and a pig (Viivi and Wagner), which had it’s opening night 2006, during the Helsinki Festival. During the 2008 season, the Helsinki City Theatre performed Julkunen’s Raimo Reiska Raksa, a musical play for children.
Julkunen is also an experienced and appreciated coach. He teaches at the Sibelius Academy, Finland's only music Academy.
